Search inline comments

Use the Search inline comments action to search comments without adding a macro to the page.

Open the Search inline comments action

Open a Confluence page.
Open the page actions menu.
Select Search inline comments.

The current page is selected initially. You can replace it with other pages or change the scope to selected spaces.

Choose scope and filters

The Search action provides the same scope, status, and advanced filters as the macro:

Selected pages, optionally including descendants.
Selected spaces.
Resolved or unresolved status.
Creation date and page labels.
Comment authors, mentioned users, and words or phrases.
Newest-first or oldest-first sorting.

Search can display 10, 25, 50, or 100 results per page.

Enable Include replies when matching filters when the selected author, mentioned-user, or text filters should match replies as well as root comments.

This can take longer across broad scopes because Search must inspect the relevant reply threads. Unlike the macro, Search is an explicit, exhaustive search and reports the exact total when it finishes.

Understand the results

Each result shows the comment author, creation time, status, commented content, comment text, reply count, and its page and space context.

Select Commented content to open the inline comment.
Select only the page name after Space › to open that page in a new tab.
Select the reply count to expand or collapse the thread.
Hover over labels to see all labels.
Attachment comments whose selected text is unavailable are identified as [Attachment].

Export the results

After Search finishes, select Export CSV to download every matching comment, not only the current results page.

The filename includes the local export date and time:

commentlens-inline-comments-YYYY-MM-DDTHH_MM_SS.csv

The CSV contains the following columns: Status, Created, Author, Space, Page, Commented content, Comment, Page URL, and Comment URL.

When Include replies when matching filters was enabled, the export also includes Matched in and Matching reply text.

Preparing an export may take longer when comment or matching-reply text still needs to be loaded.
